Ryan Murphy sets Olympic record, claimed gold in 100m backstroke

Nicely, Ryan Murphy made good. He's an Olympian. He is just 21. And right now he is a gold medal-winning, record-setting member of side USA in the pool.

Murphy touched 1st in a challenging 100-meter backstroke final on Monday night. His 51.97 wall-touch set an Olympic record. Murphy close to set a world record, as well.
"It's all the things... previously on in this trip we got a stack of letters from backstrokers who have won here in the past," Murphy told of taking gold. "It destined everything to me and I am sure it meant everything to David too. Following the way they set up for us, it is really cool."

Murphy's partner, American David Plummer, take bronze with a time of 52.40. ending between them, China's Xu Jiayu nabbed silver (52.31).
