Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer and also Townley Haas assisted the U.S. quartet’s win in the 4x200m freestyle, putting a 4th successive gold medal for the U.S. in the event at the Olympics on Tuesday. Phelps was on each one of those relays: 2004, 2008, 2012 and now 2016. Their time of 7 minutes, 0.66 seconds defeat out Great Britain, the 2015 world champions, by two and a half seconds.
The night was filled with drama. About an hour before, Phelps raced to his 14th solo Olympic gold in the 200m butterfly. And right before he moved on the blocks to anchor the relay, he divide his dome cap as he was seeking to put it on. He raced with exactly what seemed to be an inside-out cap rather, borrowed from Dwyer.
