US Virginia Thrasher won 1st Gold of RIO 2016

The 19-year-old United States edged out China's Du Li, gold in Athens in 2004, with an Olympic-record score of 208. Defending Olympic winner Yi Siling, also of China, got the bronze medal.

Contending in her very first Olympics, Thrasher, as the 1st Gold Winner of the 2016 Games, was honored her medal by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach and stated the feat was beyond her wildest dreams.
"About halfway thru once i got the lead it type of became very clear to me that I was in contention for a medal, but I immediatlely pushed that thought away and aimed at breathing and getting one shot at a time," Thrasher added.
